The Independence Day holiday was marred by reports of animal cruelty.
Lewisville Police Chief Jason Tomlin said that on Saturday afternoon, July 4th, he was following up on a report of animal cruelty and found a bony horse and a dead dog at a residence on East 31st Street. The horse was inside a small grassless pen and the dog was chained in the same area.
"After receiving the report, I began investigating and this is what I found," said Tomlin. "The horse was inside this pen littered with debris, including the dead dog covered in flies."
At the time of Tomlin's investigation, the horse was nibbling at a small pile of hay on the ground and it did have access to a pan of water. There did not appear to be any water within the chain's reach of the dog and there was no way to tell how long the animal had been dead.
Tomlin took 28-year-old Joy Hammontree into custody and charged her with two counts of animal cruelty.

Juvenile Charged With Fleeing

After leading police on a 95-100 mph chase, this juvenile said, "I didn't see you". He was charged with fleeing, reckless driving, no insurance and no vehicle license.
